Though we’ve only just made it home from an intense week in Austin during SXSW, we already have a sampling of the live performances from the first day of our broadcast from Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop. The first band to perform, Seattle’s own rising stars The Head on the Heart made us feel right at home in our temporary new digs with their rousing and rollicking folky set, while British band Yuck followed up with songs ranging from Replacements-like ballads to Dinosaur Jr.-inspired jams. LA’s Grouplove earned their name with an uplifting audience-enthused lovefest, and Portland/Washington D.C. supergroup Wild Flag (Carrie Brownstein, Mary Timony, Rebecca Cole, and Janet Weiss) rocked so hard that fans in the know asked, “Sleater-who?”
